Welcome to lathiat.net, home page of Trent "Lathiat" Lloyd (トレント). Here you can find information about me, articles & talks I have published and other random information.

I am currently employed as a MySQL Technical Support Engineer for Sun Microsystems and I am also Director & Lead Developer for Web In A Box. I also volunteer my time on the non-profit assocation boards of Bur.st Networking, Inc. and the WAIA (Western Australian Internet Association).

I am an active member of the free software community, I use Debian Linux in my server environments - but my main desktop is a Macbook running Mac OS X. I am also co-author of the Avahi project, an LGPL-free implementation of Apple's mDNS/DNS-SD standard (otherwise known as 'Bonjour').

If you wish to catch up with me, I usually reside in Perth, Western Australia.

Outside of the technical world, I am also an Amateur Poker Player - I hope to expand my interests into some bigger play in the future. My game of choice is the TV-popular "No Limit Hold 'em", but I plan on expanding my experience to include "Pot Limit Omaha" games in the future. I often play in some play home-games, and for real money on-line.

Many people have asked me where my nickname/handle ('lathiat') comes from. The story is that I am a Star Trek fan. The captain of Deep Space 9, is Benjamin Lafayette Sisco (Avery Brooks). In one of the few episodes that revealed his middle name (in fact, I only remember one..) it was hard to make out exactly what it was, I went through several theories, re-watching that scene many times - Lafiat at first, then Lathiat - I eventually found out online that it was 'Lafayette', but I liked the name 'lathiat', and it was 100% original (as far as a google search was concerned anyway :) - so I stuck with that. It's convenient having a handle that is used nowhere, I never have any problems signing up to web-sites, and if I do, it's because I forgot I created an account there :)
